Eureka is one of the most widely adopted math curriculums in the country, so naturally, there are many resources available to help make you more successful with teaching this curriculum! Today I wanted to highlight a few of these resources for you.
To access the resources, you will need to create a login, but it is free to join. Once you’ve created your login, you will receive access to not only all the Eureka math curriculum, but other helpful tools as well! There are parent notes you can send home to help parents better understand what their students are learning, materials lists, pacing guides, and informational videos.
All of that is available for free, but you can get access to even more videos with a subscription to the digital suite. It is pricey, so I recommend seeing if your school will pay for it. But the videos you receive access to are incredibly helpful, as they include in-depth looks into every single lesson.
Zearn.org is an online supplement to the Eureka curriculum. It takes almost every lesson and puts it into an interactive video format. The problems and the teaching methods used in the Zearn lessons are very similar to those used in the corresponding Eureka lesson.
Zearn lessons are organized the same way as Eureka lessons - first by modules (called “missions” on Zearn), then by lessons. If you are teaching module 3 lesson 5 in Eureka, then you will also be using mission 3 lesson 5 on Zearn. Not EVERY Eureka lesson has a Zearn lesson to accompany it, but most do.
Zearn also includes worksheets that can be printed for students as they go through the lessons. Zearn is great for students to use at home or during a technology center, but can also be used for whole group instruction in place of your concept development! (I don’t recommend this every day, but it is nice to switch it up every once in awhile!)
Each Zearn lesson includes some fluency activities, guided practice (this is the main lesson), and independent practice. The guided practice often starts off with a variation of the lesson’s application problem. The independent practice includes two activities - the Tower of Power and the Bonus. The Tower of Power includes 3-5 problems based on the lesson, similar to the problem set. The Bonus is one additional problem, similar to the exit ticket. Of course, you can choose to do every part of the Zearn lesson or not.
EMBARC.Online is a website that includes lots of free supplemental materials to use with every grade level of Eureka. Some of the resources available include videos for each lesson, SMARTboard files, slideshows, printables, online games and apps to supplement instruction, Google classroom materials, and more. The number of resources available to you on EMBARC can be overwhelming, so make sure to allow yourself some time to go through it.
Teach the Way They Learn Supplemental Materials
While the free presentations are adequate, I found I wanted something more, with a bit of style to engage my students in our daily lessons. Therefore, I created many supplemental Eureka/Engage NY math materials for pre-kindergarten through 5th grade and sell them on Teachers Pay Teachers in my store, Teach the Way They Learn. My resources include detailed PowerPoint presentations for each lesson, starting with the fluency practice and all the way through the exit ticket. Workbooks are also available for application problems, so your students have a visual and designated workspace to work the problems. Additionally, I included manuscript and cursive sentence stems to encourage students to write their answers in complete sentences, while simultaneously working on their penmanship. If you’re interested in checking out these materials, click here to visit my store.
While none of the above mentioned materials are necessary, these resources can be used to supplement your teaching with Eureka/Engage NY, to help make your life a little bit easier. In my opinion, Eureka is truly one of the best math curriculum programs out there, but it can be a lot! Do yourself a favor and check out some of these resources to help you - you won’t regret it!
